They chose to be a Tutinari, enlist in the Army. I decided that there was a 40% chance they'd be stationed on Biona, 20% chance of Arita, 20% chance of a major colony and 20% chance of a minor colony.

I also established that each Colony would have a Federal Embassy as part of the Colony grant. The Republic would use this not only for the stated purpose of keeping the colony in line but in some colonies the Embassy would also be a military base. The reason you're more likely to be stationed on Biona is due to that planets rebellious nature and the threat of them actually leaving the Republic to join the Royzon Compact. The perceived threat is very real and the Army is being stationed there as part deterrent, part foothold in the event they do rebel, and part if they succeed and it doesn't start a war, the Republic already has a presence.

Rolling the dice they were stationed on Arita where I gave them 50/50 odds for a HQ unit and a Combat unit. Combat units would be preparing to invade their neighbors where HQ would be working towards strategy and management. They got HQ duty, which they were thrilled about. They wanted their character to be well off and live safely. I told them Tutinari was a bad choice for this but they wanted to look most like a human more than the former desires. Then with the knowledge that the best/easiest way to climb the "well off" ladder was to join the military.

Character creation could have stopped here but we had some time so I kept going. Their re-enlistment came up and they could get a promotion in Citizen class and Military rank but get sent on a special assignment or they could get out and do something else. Enjoying the job security of the military and the promise of doing something interesting they re-enlisted.

Here is where I created 4 job paths for them, which are potential material for canon. 1) Training or Recruitment duty.

2) Sent to the Information Ministry as a military service member, likely to work on gathering information that would harm the Republic. Could be a CIA or FBI type of position.

3) Stay at HQ to work towards a political position, either as a politician or military politics.

4) (and the option they chose) Sent to an Embassy to be part of the HQ element there working in a 3 person team that gives the Embassy a talking head of the Republic from the Department of the Army. The reason its a 3 person team is one of them will be at the Embassy providing advising, one will be in transport going to or from the Dept of Army HQ, and one will be at HQ receiving updates on the latest things of the Army. This process ensures each Embassy has the most up to date information. These teams are typically a small group of people, and on their first deployment out to one of these units as a 2nd termer they would be back on the bottom of the chain of command. Higher rank than many at the Embassy, but the lowest in the team.

This is where we ran out of time to discuss further. Some later prodding showed he wasn't thinking about anything grand for this character, which I would have permitted for the sake of education on how to handle such a thing. It was determined that he'd end up at an Embassy on Biona, and Biona proper at that. Lore Masters know how this ends.
