In Novaris there are two ways that one could travel large distances quicker than light naturally could. One such way is what is known as Distortion Fields and the other simply as Gates.

Distortion Fields come in varying shapes, sizes, and execution methods but boil down to the same principles. Space is compressed ahead of a ship, and expanded behind it allowing the ship to be effortlessly pushed through space.

Gates on the other hand are a much closer guarded secret but are much more powerful. Scientist speculate that Gate Builders have found a way to create a wormhole and replicate it. Gates are built and deployed in pairs, each linking to the other, and allowing instant travel between the two locations. This corporation has done a remarkable job at keeping the information of how they build these secret. However they have their commissions open to anyone who can afford them.
