Artistic Vision

V 0.36:

Design: What do their buildings and ships look like? Well, I’d like to steal once again from the Roman Empire. Here are some words used to describe the Roman Empire architecture that I would say also applies to RoA.

  • Practical, utilitarian

  • Monumentality

  • Colossal (Mainly for government buildings)

  • Commemorative, propagandistic (Areas for large gatherings near govt buildings and icon frames on the most important buildings)

  • Vaults, arches, domes, decorative pillars

  • Public works are on display, this is to show that the state is worVull. Imagine if our roads were vaulted and vented so you could see the sewer running under it, and the walls lined with all the other utilities. The ironic part of this is that half of those visible utilities were fake, and the real utilities were behind them, buried under concrete.

V 0.4

I’m imagining a blend between modernism, roman arches and vaults, and brutalism.

Modernism is really just painted brutalism anyway, so adding arches and vaults to give the slight hint of roman influence should be fairly easy. The difficulty will be blending that into the combo of modern and brutal. The key difference between those is mostly the interiors and modernism tends to add things brutalism wouldn’t, so maybe government buildings are more brutal while private ones tend towards modernism.
