Food Urbanization Act

Intent

With land getting so expensive outside of cities agriculture has moved to warehouses in cities. This immerging field is in need of subsidies to help get it on it's feet.

Wording

While not the exact verbiage of the law, this captures the important parts

Food grown inside of city limits, and inside a facility dedicated to food growth, shall gain be paid 1 Astroni per 500 calories of food it sells to the public. Companies are encouraged to charge a market rate for goods sold and use the subsidy to expand business.

Why by calorie?

The Republic's social welfare program around distributing food does so based on the Tutinari's age, height and lifestyle. This way the government can ensure that a citizen is getting the calories they need for their lifestyle.

Because this system is already in place, it is easy for the government to use the system that designates calorie count and issue a payment based on the unit's listed calorie count and the number sold.

Oversoyus

The company Oversoyus abused this law but was not stopped by officials. What they have done is chemically engineered a slop bar that takes up the least amount of space possible, is as light as possible, but most importantly fits their uniform size and is at least two thousand calories.

What this means is that for the cost of a single Astroni, the government will award them 4 Astroni. This profit margin alone is enough to support the business. Instead of selling them, they give them away in vending machines they put anywhere they can. Each time someone collects an Oversoyus bar the company makes 3 Astroni.

Oversoyus even offers home delivery at the cost of delivery. If enough of your neighbors get Oversoyus delivered the cost becomes less than .25 Astroni per unit and the company waives shipping cost.

The over (badum tss) abundacne of the product has made people fat and happy, just as the FUA intended.
